Airway buffing wheel working on aluminum diamond plate

Start with the surface—not the shopping list.

Maintaining a shine you already like?

Your Pro 40 still has a role in cleaning, polishing, and protecting metal. You don’t need to turn every cleanup into a full buffing project.

Ready to tackle bare aluminum?

Buffing uses a matched wheel and compound through separate stages. The preparation you need depends on the condition of the surface. Deep damage may require work beyond what a kit alone can do.

Unsure whether it’s bare, coated, plated, or anodized?
Send us a photo before you start. These aluminum kit recommendations aren’t a recipe for every finish.

What the wheels and bars do

Break the process into manageable stages.

01 / CUT

Start the cutting stage.

A primary-cut wheel and compound handle the first buffing stage after suitable surface preparation.

02 / REFINE

Move to the next pair.

A separate wheel and compound handle the secondary-cut stage. Keep the stages and their supplies organized.

03 / FINISH

Work toward the finish.

The finishing wheel and compound form the last buffing pair. Follow the instructions for your surface and chosen products.

Watch Zephyr’s own demonstration to see the process before choosing a kit.

Before you buy

Will your angle grinder work?

Check the actual machine and wheel specifications. Size alone isn’t enough. A typical high-speed angle grinder may exceed a buffing wheel’s rating. A variable-speed control doesn’t by itself establish compatibility.

Confirm your setup.

  • Machine suitability and permitted wheel diameter
  • Actual operating speed within the wheel’s marked limit
  • Correct arbor, spindle length, mounting clearance, and required safety flanges

Have the rest ready.

  • Compatible powered equipment—neither kit includes a machine
  • Required protective equipment and a suitable work area
  • Any surface-preparation supplies your project needs

Follow the current instructions supplied with your equipment and wheels. If you’re unsure, email the machine model and a project photo to sales@zephyrpro40.com. See Zephyr’s flange-installation and polishing tutorials.

A little help before your first project.

Do I need to buy the 10-inch kit for a better result?

Choose for equipment compatibility and the job, rather than assuming a larger diameter is automatically better. Ask Zephyr if you’re unsure which setup fits.

Does a kit include the angle grinder or polisher?

No. These kits supply wheels, compound bars, and the other listed accessories. You need a compatible machine and appropriate protection separately.

Can I use this on coated wheels or chrome?

Don’t assume an aluminum buffing process suits another finish. Confirm the surface and speak with Zephyr before choosing an abrasive process.

What if I’m unsure about my equipment or surface?

Send your machine model, project photo, and desired result to sales@zephyrpro40.com. We can help you choose before you order.
